Back in the swing of things

Well, let me just say that it has been a long and difficult few months. I’ve not been writing lately due to life completely overwhelming me. However, it seems that with the new year comes new hope, and I believe I am back in the swing of things. Today is my second day of consistent writing and I see that as a good thing. It’s a habit that I, clearly, am returning too. (And amen to that.)

I am about 61% through the editing phase. I’ve since lost my editor, Matt. I’m not worried however because he did manage to complete the entire book for me, while it was in its roughest stage. I believe I can handle the rest. (I need to start attending the critique groups again.) I have my friend, fellow author John Van Vliet, as well as a few other bright friends that are raring to read the next draft.

My writer friend who I used to novel pod with, Mac Wheeler, has been killing it lately, self-publishing practically every single one of his novels via Amazon. I am extremely proud of him, though I never have the opportunity to tell him because, Christ, I am incapable of managing my time. Anyway, he’s someone I want to reconnect with soon.

So, after I finish up this edit, I need to polish the second half of the book. The first half is beautiful. Oh my god, it’s light years better than what it was. However, it’s because I rewrote, added, and took away. The second half needs the same makeover. It’s still far too easily falling into the epic fantasy category, and I want to get away from that as much as possible.

Additionally, I finally posted the “About” page for my next novel, which I wish I could be working on in place of BtC, It Leads to Hell. Head on over to my “Stories” page to read about that!

42% through

What sucks about me writing is that I don’t ever feel like writing as much, nor do I write as aggressively, as I do before I have to go to work. So today, woke up kind of late. It’s gonna be 1pm and I need to be at work from 5pm to 10pm. Growl.

I am making progress. Yesterday, I spent the whole day with my Word file up. I’m going to try to get Ian out of Thames by 4pm when I have to hop in the shower. Just wanted to blog as an excuse to not write. Ha! Matt called me yesterday. He’s on the last chapter of the beginning of the book. He blows through it whenever I print it for him because he works on it during his lunch hours at work. And since it’s near perfection, it goes quickly. He’s going to try to get it done before he goes on vacation this weekend, which is good because I can swing by and pick it up.

I want to get excerpts online as soon as possible even though I’m pretty sure I don’t have a lot of visitors at my site. In fact, I’m sure I’ve lost many because there weren’t any excerpts up for so long. :/

So hopefully look forward to that next time. Got to get working. It’s 2 minutes from 1pm. *sigh* I hate retail jobs. The gods know, I seriously do. I can’t wait to start writing fulltime and promoting my book.

Just to say, I got to let the world know I wouldn’t be where I am today, in regards to writing, without my friends. Lori reads everything I give her and edits it with me in excruciating detail. Matt is a godsend. I would never be this far ahead of this game were it not for him. Truly, he is the reason this book is going to be great. And then John, who doesn’t read my genre, still does an incredible job and catches shit no one else catches. And my friend Jorge that corrects me on the stuff that men know and women don’t, lol. I’m very grateful.
